Welcome to the website of Staffordshire Moorlands AC

Whether you are a seasoned runner or are just starting out, Staffs Moorlands has something for you. The Club is based at Leek in Staffordshire in the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands. It is set in some of the most beautiful scenery in the country and draws its membership from the surrounding area as well as nearby Stoke On Trent and Buxton.

The club members take part in races both locally and throughout the country, including the London marathon and the Great North Run. Some members take part in races abroad, including the Reims half marathon in France and the Amsterdam races in Holland, as well as fell world championships and other races.

The club has very active adult mens, ladies and junior sections. Staffs Moorlands trains at both Leek and at Northwood Stadium at Stoke on Trent. For Junior details see our Junior page.

The club puts on many races throughout the year including the popular Leek Half which in 2007 also incoprated the Britsh Masters half marathon championships. In the summer we put on our weekly summer off-road championship series. And in winter we put on a fixture of the North Staffs Cross country league as well as the xmas cracker multi terrain race held at Tittesworth reservoir.

Please feel free to come along to any of our advertised sessions.
The ladies section of the club now have their own kit, Pink with black chest band. The new kit has been sponsored by F.Ball & Co who are based in Cheddleton.
Every current paid up female active member (As of 1st Aug 2008) will receive a vest or crop top free of charge. If you want additional kit this can be purchased from the club at a cost of £14 per vest and £17 per crop top.
Pink Ladies
The new kit is in addition to the Yellow and Green kit. However for all cross country events and for Sutton Park Relays the new pink kit MUST be worn. For all other races it is up to the individual to choose what they want to wear. All new female members would be advised to buy the Pink kit rather than the Yellow as the new kit will be used for all team events. If you haven't had you new kit yet then please email The Ladies' Team Manager at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

All we have to do now is match the kit with some good performances!

It's not all running and racing, of course. There's a lot going on behind the scenes of each race. We need to have as strong a team behind the scenes as we have on the course itself. We are now in the process of recruiting people to help out with race organising in a more organised way.

Sponge StationSponge Station Each year we host several individual races and series.

For these to go smoothly, we need a combination of skills, equipment, and helpers.

Each race is facilitated by an experienced Race Director, who, along with a small team of helpers is responsible for preparing, and carrying out the various race activities.

You will notice the Race Director at each race, as he/she is the worried looking one, running all over the place, trying to get everyone organised. By the time of the race, the course will be prepared, the starting and finishing teams will be in place; and the Marshalls should be out on the course.

We usually manage these activities very well, but we have had a few close calls. What we need to do now is to get more organised, further in advance of each race. Sometimes Race Directors don't know who will turn up to help until the race is about to start in some cases.

We need your help! Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you would like to volunteer, or would like more details.

MarkersA lot of members of the club attend races even if they haven't entered them themselves - typically wives, husbands, parents, injured etc. We would like you to seriously consider getting more involved with the race organisation side of things.

Typical areas where you can help are:
1) Course preparation.
2) Tent erection and dismantling.
3) Taking race entries.
4) Marshalling the course.
5) Helping with race finishing - noting bib numbers of finishers along with their time across the line.
6) Calculation of results.
7) Presentation of prizes.

This is not a complete list and at the moment we are looking for people to make a general commitment to help, with a view to becoming part of a race team. Individual tasks can be agreed once we have a group to select from.

We are of course interested in your help, even if you can only make it once or twice a season!

Don't think that you can't help because you have no experience. Most people can stand in a field with their arms outstretched saying "This way, please."!

In the heatherSome jobs are more technical, but you would not be asked to do something that you weren't comfortable with, or that the Race Director wasn't confident that you could handle. Having said that, it occasionally happens that we need all hands to the pump, and a 'can do' attitude is a big plus in these situations.

We are looking for a group of about 20 people in all, which represents a large commitment from a club of our size. We do need to make the effort, however, as the future of our club is largely build on the reputation of the races it puts on, and the organisation of them.
