Jones Takes Gold at Midlands
Written by P Greer
Monday, 21 June 2010 21:14
At the Midlands Masters on 13th June 2010 there was great delight for our very own super vet Anthony Jones on the track after failing in the 800m he then decided to have a go at the 400m and his target was to dip under 60secs.

With all the determination that we know he has, he not only ran an amazing 57sec but also came away with the Gold medal in his age group O/40m.

So a big well done to Ant and I hope that he is preparing for the cross country as it will soon be upon us and he is a very valuable member of our team.

Keep up the good work mate

Written by William Neill
Tuesday, 15 June 2010 18:26
International marathoners Martin Williams of Tipton Harriers and City of Stoke AC runner Michelle Ross-Cope won the male and female's category of the Potters 'Arf Marathon on Sunday 13th June with Sam Lucking being the first Moorland runner in 7th place.

Williams won the race in a time of 01:09:02 over two and a half minutes from fellow Tipton Harriers runner Ben Gamble with a time of 01:11:55. But the run of the day, third overall in the race was Michelle Ross-Cope who of course claimed the first woman in a time of 01:15:10.

Staffordshire Moorlands AC runners ran well with first of them being Sam Lucking back from university to finish seventh overall with a time of 01:17:26. Then came Chris Meir who was twentieth and was also fifth M40 on the day with a time of 01:23:07. Staffordshire Moorlands AC M50 runner Kelvin Amos came second M50 and 27th overall, running 01:24:48, Paul Davis was next running in 33rd & 01:26:17 and Dave Owen coming back in 40th in 01:27:17.

Well done all the Moorlands athletes who ran at this popular local road race. There were also relays within the half marathon with Staffordshire Moorlands AC performed well in;

On a warm Sunday morning Staffordshire Moorlands AC had four teams running in the Hanley Building Society Potters 'Alf Marathon 2010 with managed to take the top three spots. First home was Moorlands Dream Team (humble? them?) Ryan Holroyd, Vinnie Martin, Tom Halloway and Terry Fowler set the tone of the day by steaming home in a combined time of 01:15:17.

A team combination of youthful enthusiasm and aged experience seems to be the winning formula as the second team home was a combination of both, in the form of Tom Brooks who went off first who handed over to Matt Caton. On third leg was Debbie Hope (as old as the rest of the team put together) and handed over to Lauren Hancock to bring the team back in 01:26:47, this is a big event for the juniors and they did the club proud.

Third team home was Moorlands C Team in a time of 01:38:36 with Amanda Holdcroft, Sammi Sheldon, Angela Jacquemart and Oliver Sadler making that one up and the final team, Moorlands B Team who can sixth place with the team consisting of Victoria Stevenson, Rachel Massey, Maria Owen and Lizzie Briand who finished with a time of 01:49:35.

The ladies were also represented in full race with Rachel Postles Meigh first Moorlands lady home in 01:59:42, Liz Baker in 02:05:28 and Emma Brookes (Toms mum) in 02:09:16
