Our very own Tracy Dean has been chosen to represent Great Britain in the European championship 24 hour race in Rumania in May. Her own words and feelings about this are set out below. Safe to say the club are pleased and proud ! I hope it inspires many other to follow their dreams and note that age is just a number!
A whole new world opened for me when I retired in 2005. I had always been a runner but could I do something more- triathlons or even an Ironman? My swimming background was 2 lengths maximum before being exhausted and my only bike was a MTB.
My journey into the world of ultra fell racing started one night at the Birchall track when my mate Simon said “iʼm going to do a Bob Graham round”. Knowing almost nothing about it my obvious reply was “i want to do that too”. Simon had read the book Feet In The Clouds about the challenge and was hooked.
Eden Schiller joined SMAC in September 2012 starting in the beginners group in the middle of the field enjoying fun relays, games and small track sessions. Five years later she is the 2017 Midlands U15 3000m track champion, the U15 Staffs County Cross Country champion and the Midlands U15 1500m silver medallist.
SMAC is famous for putting on a series of races during the summer months and also a pre-Christmas event. Please follow the links to our Summer Series and Christmas Cracker race pages.
